The Archives of Michigan holds Michigan Supreme Court case files from 1857 to 1965. Michigan Supreme Court case files provide background information or document aspects of specific cases. Most case files include a writ of error. This is an order by the Supreme Court to the lower court to turn over all material relevant to a case. An assignment of errors and/or a bill of exceptions will usually accompany the writ. The original complaint, summonses, and subpoenas, warrants, notices of retainer, and written statements by witnesses may also be included.
Please provide the approximate date of the case, and the case file number above. This product covers one Supreme Court case file. The research fee for this product takes into account the time and costs associated with Archives staff searching, pulling, copying, and delivering the records. The research fee is non-refundable.
