The Michigan Trout Stamp program began in 1948 as a way to raise revenue for the Department of Conservation Fisheries Division. Artists submitted entries for the annual competition in hopes of being selected for the stamp. The competition ended in 1996.
We have reproduced the beautiful Michigan Trout Stamps through fellow Michigan artist Chad Pastotnik, owner and operator ofDeep Wood Pressnear Mancelona, Michigan. Nestled in the forest along the banks of the Cedar River in Northern Michigan's Antrim County, Deep Wood Press has continued the tradition of hand-crafted printed items, bindings and book matter. With a foundation in fine art and a careful attention to craftsmanship and detail, the end result is more than a vehicle for information.
This 2" x 3" rectangle magnet features the 1956 Michigan Trout Stamp. All magnets are printed and assembled at the Michigan History Center in Lansing, Michigan.
Disclosure: This is a reproduction of the Michigan Trout Stamp, not an actual stamp.
